Delivery Limitations

Issue with delivery limitation after upgrading to OpenX 2.8

When you upgrade your OpenX from an older version to 2.8.x you may face issue with the delivery limitations. In this case the delivery limitations will not work at all. If you have applied delivery limitations on the ads the ads will be displayed without considering delivery limitations on it. This behavior occurs when the upgrade process did not run properly. Probably the upgrading process timed out. If the upgrading process could not run well, some of your delivery limitations will not be converted to the new format.

Channel Targeting

Channels provide a way of defining different content sections of a website and applying a separate set of delivery limitations for each channel. Advertiser can target the specific visitor interests using the channel.

We can create channels in two ways:
  • Global Channel: Global channels can be created by a Manager. All banners controlled by that manager can use these channels.
  • Website Channel: Website channels can be created for the websites. Only banners linked to a zone in this website can use these channels.

Evaluate delivery limitations during delivery

Delivery limitations help you deliver the banners more targeted to your visitors. If you are not using delivery limitations you can disable the evaluations of the limitation altogether with this setting. Disabling the delivery limitations will reduce the load OpenX
is generating a bit. If you have disabled delivery limitations with this parameter you can't modify any existing limitations from the admin interface.

Targeting Ads Using Source Parameter

 
Source parameter feature of OpenX can be used to target ads to specific sections of a website. In this techinque zones are labeled using Source parameter. The word entered in the source parameter decides which ads to display.Source parameter can be added in two ways in invocation code.
 
Go to invocation code section of a zone and select Javascript type of invocation code. Enter the value of source in Tag settings and click Refresh. Now the sports will be added as the source parameter in the invocation code. You can add source parameter for all kind of invocation codes. Here we have taken the example of the JavaScript type of invocation code.  
 

Targeting Ads using site variable

You can target the ads using the Site Variable delivery limitation on the delivery limitations page of a banner. Suppose you want to display your ads to the users who are male. Go to Delivery Options> Site - Variable for any banner.Then you will have to create a variable name and a value for that variable. We will create a site variable ‘gender’ here and the ‘male’ as value. Select ‘is equal to’ from the dropdown.
